How do you personally incorporate mindfulness into your daily eating habits, and what benefits have you experienced?
By taking time to be present whilst preparing and eating your meal. Enjoy the process of preparing right from planning to cooking. I find that putting on my favourite music whilst cooking helps me to enjoy the process. Eat what you enjoy that is healthy. Take the time to sit and eat your food slowly without the need to be on your phone or in front of a screen. This also helps aid digestion leading to better absorption of vital nutrients. In the mediterrean they see this as a time to socialise with family and friends. In a world full of technology we tend to let these habits that were once so engrained in us be forgotten.
In your opinion, what's the biggest misconception people have about mindful eating, and how can we address it?
In todays society we lead such busy lives that food is becoming a chore and rushed to just get out of the way. Fast on the go food is too accessable. By taking 10-20 minutes away from the desk to enjoy food this alone can improve our relationship with food and allows you time to sit with yourself and just slow down.
What are some simple mindfulness exercises someone could do at home to improve their relationship with food?
See it as nourishment for your health and wellbeing. Remind yourself that food is medicine and willl help you function to your highest standard.
Could you share a story of a client who transformed their health and wellbeing through incorporating mindfulness into their diet?
My own personal jorney of using this practice. I restored my health fully. I have lots of energy, I sleep better, I have no gut issues and have lost Three stone in weight. But most of all, I have no inflammation in my body and did not need the refferal that I had waited 13 months for to see a Rhuematologist.
